Section A) DownLoading the Software
Step1) Download VNC from http://www.realvnc.com/download.html
On the page there are two sections Your details: do not fill any information in this section. Installable packages: Select the platform for which you want to download like windows 2000/xp/nt etc Click on proceed to download
Step 2) On the next page you will find two kinds of download
A) full installation (server and viewer)
B) viewer program only
Click on exe for option 1 (Server and viewer)
When the dialog box is promted to open/save/cancel Click on open The download will start Step3) Once the download is complete, it will prompt with the message ”This will install VNC. Do you wish to continue” Click on yes Section B) Installing the Software Step 1) You will see a VNC setup Wizard click on next On the liscense Aggrement click on yes Step 2) Now you will prompted for the installation folder Default is : C:\Program Files\RealVNC You can install in default folder or you can specify where you want to install it. Step 3) On clicking next you will be prompted to select the components to be installed Make sure you have “full installation” selected in the drop down box and VNC Server check in the box below. Click on next Step 4) Now you will be prompted for the menu folder( your choice which menu you want the application shortcuts to be, I will suggest do not make any changes click on next) Step 5)Now you will be prompted for three Additional Tasks: Select on the last Task which is“Register VNC Server as service” and click on next Step 6) now u will be prompted with ready to install window. click on install. Step 7) Once installation is complete you will be shown a message that the vnc is successfully installed.Click on ok or next whatever looks valid Step 8) Now u will be shown an information window click on next Step 9) And then on the next window click on finish. Section C) Configuring the Server Step1) By this time you will see “WinVNC: Current user Properties” window If not then see the items in the system tray and try to open the user properties of the VNC Server” Once you see the window Enter the password, and remember the password. Unselect the Auto check box. And click on apply and then ok. Step 2) Go to the windows services or to the system tray and stop the vnc service.(If you are running windows 98 then go the system tray right click and then click on close vnc). Step 3) Now go to startà run and type regedit and click on ok Step4) You will see registry editor go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ORL and under that select winVNC3 then under the keys double click on portnumber Step 5) When the window appears select decimal base and then type in 920 in the valud data input field. And click on ok. Step 6) Now close the registry editor Step 7) And go to start program realVNC and runVNCServer. You are ready to go Section D) Details But remember if you do not have a static IP address then you will have to email yourself your ip address which you will use to connect to your server through internet The connection string to connect to the server is (ur server IP/server name:port number) the port number in our case is XXX. Also to note if you are behind a firewall then you might have to ask your administrator to open the up the port for you.
