The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODT) is evaluating a scheme that will track the distance traveled by each car in order to impose a road-use tax, to replace the regular gas tax, which is 24 cents per gallon. The ODT has come up with this wired system because they are falling short on the tax collections because more and more fuel-efficient cars are coming on the roads and the voters oppose an increase in tax.
