I am feeling so happy today because after struggling for so many days today I was finally able to create my own recognizer and parser for an expression which had specific constants/literals.
Actually I would like to thank Scott Stanchfield who has written a tutorial on antlr, which helped me a lot. The tutorial is much better than the antlr documentation.
I have finished the first pass of the lexical analysis and parsing but I still have plenty of things to understand in antlr to be somewhat comfortable.
I have not tried the AST (Abstract syntax trees) and transformation, which is what I will try next and will post my experience
Today we had an earthquake registering 4.9 Richter Scale . I live in Atlanta which do not experience much of earthquakes but this was right after the one we had last month (18th March 2003) registering 3.5 Richter Scale .
The cool thing is that I slept through it, but the strange part is that I was very uncomfortable before I went to bed last night I guess it must have been due to the low frequencies before the earthquake (my sixth sense).
I remember when I was young and had experienced an earthquake for the first time, I was really scared, every thing in my room was rumbling and shaking, I ran out of my room to get out of the house.

I was amazed to know about this breakthrough to use power lines for broadband. Getting broadband through power lines
Yesterday I was thinking of replacing my phone line with and Internet phone. But to have a DSL connection I need to have a phone line. With the advent of this new technology I guess some day I will have broadband available on my power lines so that I could get rid of my phone line and still enjoy high speed internet connection and an Internet Phone.
Also this technology will be cool for people who live in remote areas who do not have phone lines to their homes, now they will also be able to have high-speed Internet connection and Internet Phone…
Today I was on lookout for a lexical analyzer and I found ANTLR which is a freeware. Using ANTLR language one can define rules/grammar for the lexical analyzer/parser/translator. ANTLR will build the java or c++ classes for you. ANTLR also has an option to build AST's. It looks like it is a pretty good tool and for free. If you have used ANTLR please share...
